Dandelions and Bees Summer in the Garden

With Spring right around the corner I browsed through my website ginettecallaway.com to see my flower and spring like paintings. I want to share this one, believe it or not I am such a fan of Dandelions, these darling plants have been in my life since my childhood in France and I am so fond of them.

Dandelion Watercolor Painting by Ginette
In  Latin the name is:  Taraxacum officinale.

If you plant them and don't use pesticides or herbicides, as the young leaves appear they make the most tasty greens for salad. We used to pick them in the French Countryside. We was Mom, my Brother and I. Of course these days people want to get rid of them and herbicides are used, naturally you can't eat those. This plant is so unappreciated that I feel compelled to paint it again and again. isn't the seed ball "Pusteblume" a gorgeous wonder of nature? How ingenious as the wind blows them off the stem, they float, glide through the air, with their natural parachute, until they land in some happy spot, and grow another plant. Yes, I know not to the pleasure of those, that want a perfect lawn.
I shout "Long lives the weeds!". One person's weed is another person's medicinal plant. Check out all the medicinal properties of #Dandelions.

"While many people think of the dandelion (Taraxacum officinale) as a pesky weed, it is chock full of vitamins A, B, C, and D, as well as minerals, such as iron, potassium, and zinc. Dandelion leaves are used to add flavor to salads, sandwiches, and teas. The roots are used in some coffee substitutes, and the flowers are used to make wines. In the past, dandelion roots and leaves were used to treat liver problems. Native Americans also boiled dandelion in water and took it to treat kidney disease, swelling, skin problems, heartburn, and upset stomach. In traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), dandelion has been used to treat stomach problems, appendicitis, and breast problems, such as inflammation or lack of milk flow. In Europe, dandelion was used in remedies for fever, boils, eye problems, diabetes, and diarrhea.
So far, there have not been any quality scientific studies on dandelion. Today, the roots are mainly used to stimulate the appetite, and for liver and gallbladder problems. Dandelion leaves are used as a diuretic to help the body get rid of too much fluid." http://umm.edu/health/medical/altmed/herb/dandelion

Art Print of Tuscan Chapel Oil Painting by Ginette Callaway

Here is a painting I painted many years ago. The original is sold but I just made it available as print. I took the liberty to add a light ray effect to it. That was not in the original painting.
I like it like this. I think it's
magical. I you want to purchase a print please follow my link to my Imagekind Galleries by clicking the image.
I have now almost 2000
art prints listed.

Poppies Provence Modern Impressionist Oil Painting by Ginette Callaway

Poppies and Bees Provence

Large Bold Poppy Blossoms. I painted this in 2012 and painted on it some more now in 2016 after looking at it with fresh eyes. It really needed some opposing colors some blue and bluegreen. It lacked excitement, but now it's filled with life and movement. Even a few more bees showed up for the vibrant fiesta. This is a stunning original oil painting now available for purchase.
